Golf improvement starts with knowing where your strokes go

Most golfers try to fix everything at once. Take my two-minute self-check, find your biggest leak, and work on that one thing first.

Instant Golf Improvement: The 6 Pillars to Golf Success, by John Hughes

The hard truth

You probably don't need a new swing. You need to stop giving away the same handful of shots every round.

Most golfers feel like they're improving, then post the same score. That's because they practice what's fun, like hitting drivers on the range, instead of what's actually costing them. Real improvement starts with an honest look at where your strokes go.

The two-minute self-check

Check every question that sounds like you. Each one points to one of the six pillars from my book, with a fix you can try this week.

Which of these sound like you?

0 of 6

Check the questions that sound like you, and your result shows up here.

Try this on your next round: write three numbers on your scorecard. Total putts, penalty strokes, and how many times you got up and down from around the green. That's your baseline. Check the same three numbers two weeks later.

The book: Instant Golf Improvement

Instant Golf Improvement: The 6 Pillars to Golf Success is a realistic path to better golf without overhauling your swing. Each pillar comes with the habits and drills I use with my clients every week. Short chapters. Clear fixes. Things you can try on your next round.
